Practical information

Dear LIDA Participants,

On behalf of LIDA 2006 Organising Committee we welcome you to Croatia and to this Seminar. It is our pleasure to have you here with us. We have put together a very interesting professional and social program, and we hope you will enjoy it.

We would like to use this opportunity and give you several pieces of information that you may find useful.

When you arrive at the Dubrovnik airport, you can take the bus (cca 30 kn / 4,5 EUR ) or the taxy (cca 200 kn / 27,5 EUR) to reach the city center.

Majority of LIDA 2006 sessions will take place at the Congress Hall (Poljana Paska Milicevica 4, nearby Pile entrance to the Old Town) and only several at the Inter-University Center (Don Frana Bulica 4, outside the Old Town). Thus, indication of place is provided only for sessions taking place at IUC (Inter-University Center). Please make sure to check either in the programme book (you will get it in your conference materials at the onsite registration) or at the information desk where the session/event that you are interested in takes place.

Both of these venues, Congress Hall and IUC, are easily reachable from your hotel, either on foot or by public transport. Please ask at your hotel about local buses' schedules and rates. Please take a look at http://www.ffos.hr/lida/slike/iucmap.jpg and http://www.ffos.hr/lida/slike/pilemap for the map of the town Dubrovnik where Congress Hall and IUC are marked.

Onsite registration, for participants of Workshop A and Workshop B only, opens on Monday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the IUC, and for all  other LIDA participants Monday at the Congress Hall from 1 p.m.  to 3 p.m. Opening session is scheduled for Monday 3 p.m. at the  Congress Hall. Monday evening at 7 p.m. Welcome party for all LIDA participants (including accompanying persons) shall take place at the IUC courtyard. The same evening at 8 p.m. the presentation of the latest issue of the Croatian Librarians' Herald shall take place at the  Research Library Reading Room. Unfortunately this event will be in Croatian only.

Another special event is planned for LIDA participants Tuesday evening: Croatian translation of Tefko Saracevic's selected works, gathered in the book entitled «Contributions to the Creation of a Theory of Information Science» shall be presented at 8 p.m. in the Congress Hall (in English and Croatian).

Both Tuesday and Wednesday at 1 p.m. a visit to Dubrovnik State Archives, Dubrovnik Research Library and Franciscan Monastery Library shall be organized. LIDA participants can chose each day which of these valuable institutions and their collections they want to have a closer look at. Sign up sheets and tickets (on first come first serve basis) shall be available at the Information desk in Congress Hall.
Wedesday evening 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. is reserved for the Poster session and PhD forum with cheese and wine. This sessions will take place in the Congress Hall.

Please note that the Conference is moving to the nearby island of Mljet on Thursday morning at 9 from the port Gruz. Transfer from Dubrovnik to Mljet and back from Mljet to Dubrovnik is included in the registration fee. However, you must get to port Gruz on your own (port Gruz is also marked on the map). Also, make sure you booked a room in hotel Odisej on Mljet!

Programme continues in the hotel Odisej on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. An Afternoon with Professor Jack Meadows is scheduled for Thursday evening at 5 p.m. at the hotel terrace and is open to all. Coctail for all LIDA participants will follow this event at 7 p.m.. Banquet (at which prizes for the best poster and best student research proposal will be announced) starts at 9:30 p.m.

Friday morning is, traditionally, reserved for ASIST Student Chapter Breakfast where students can talk informally with prominent senior ASIST members. Breakfast starts at 8:30 a.m. so make sure to turn up early enough if you want to get the good seats! Closing session and panel is scheduled for Friday afternoon and will be moderated, as always, by professor Tefko Saracevic. Friday afternoon is free for those participants who have not signed up for Workshop D and we suggest that if you are free, you take a tour (on bike, boat or on foot) in the nearby national park or have a swim in the beautiful Adriatic sea (sea temperature is ca 18-20 ?   C). Also, a number of exciting excursions are offered to LIDA participants (which are not included in the conference fee) - information about them is available on the LIDA website or onsite at Information desk.

The return from Mljet to Dubrovnik is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 6 p.m. This should leave enough time for participants flying from Dubrovnik on Saturday after 9:30 p.m. If you need to be in Dubrovnik earlier than that, please, make sure to check for additional connections and ferries to Dubrovnik, and transfer option by Hotel Odisej at Mljet, or ask at the Information desk. Also, make sure to check with your hotel, if you need an extra night in Dubrovnik on your way home from Mljet, whether your room is booked.

There will be several students at the Registration/Information desk throughout the conference at the Congress Hall and hotel Odisej on Mljet so please feel free to ask them whatever problem/question you might have.

Should you have any problems/questions during the conference, please, feel free to contact either Tatjana at  +385 91 57 37 183 or  Sanjica at  +385 98 525 148 or Marica at +385 98 482 280.

We look forward to meeting you at the Opening Session and Welcome Party on Monday!

Yours,
LIDA 2006 Organising Committee
