LIDA Excursions
On Friday June 3 and Saturday, June 4, LIDA participants are offered to choose from a number of one-day excursions to natural wonders of the island of Mljet and its surrounding area:
- Odysseus cave (Odisejeva špilja in Croatian) is situated in the central part of the island and has two entrances; from the sea and inland, down the steep path from the north. It is used even today by fishermen who hide their fishing-boats from the sea there.
This is a cave where, according to a well-known legend, Odysseus was captured after a shipwreck by and fell in love with an island nymph Calypso.
COST: ca 10 € /person
DURATION: half a day (Friday)
- Saplunara is a beautiful sand beach, ca one kilometer long, at the eastern end of the island, with c rystal clear sea , enclosed by a thick pine forest...
According to a legend, Apostle Paul's ship ran ashore on this beach on his way to Rome in 61 A.D and remained here for three full months preaching the Gospel.
COST: 20 € /person (sandwiches and drinks incl)
DURATION: half a day (Friday)
- Wine connoisseurs will surely find reason enough to taste famous wines of limited production while touring the vineyards of penninsula Pelješac.
COST: ca 45 € /person (lunch prepared in a traditional manner, "under peka" incl)
DURATION: Whole day (Saturday only)
- Island Glavat with beautiful lighthouse built in times of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy
COST: ca 40 € /person (fish lunch prepared in a traditional manner "on gradele" incl)
DURATION: whole day (Saturday only)
Excursions will be organised should there be enough interest. If you are interested, sign up by sending an email to Sanjica Faletar at sfaletar@ffos.hr by May 1. In your email, please, indicate, the excursion of your choice and number and names of people interested.
These excursions are not inluded in conference fee!
